Creekside High School swimmers claimed four first-place finishes at the Byron Plapp Invitational, held at Bolles' Tarver Pool in Jacksonville.

Ian Foulk won the boys 100-yard backstroke. Senior Sophie Oldham won the girls 100-yard butterfly. Makayla Taggart won the girls 100-yard breaststroke. The three then joined teammates Makayla Davies and Emmie Lewis on the winning girls 200-yard medley relay, with Davies, Taggart, Oldham and Lewis forming the quartet that touched the wall first.

The results stand out given the setting. Bolles, the meet's host, has won the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) state swimming championship for more than 30 consecutive years, according to Clayton Freeman of the Florida Times-Union. The Bulldogs claimed several event wins of their own at the Plapp Invitational, but Creekside's four golds marked the Knights as one of the strongest visiting programs in the water.

Oldham, who helped organize team suit fittings for the Creekside swim program ahead of the season, is in her senior year with the Knights. Foulk is also a returning swimmer for the program.

Infielder Brady Watson commits to Gardner-Webb

Creekside infielder Brady Watson committed to Gardner-Webb University baseball, Freeman reported Monday, Sept. 14.

Gardner-Webb, located in Boiling Springs, N.C., competes in the Big South Conference. The Runnin' Bulldogs play their home games at Bill Masters Field at John Henry Moss Stadium.

Watson becomes the latest Creekside athlete to make a college commitment. His specific infield position was not detailed in published reports.

Knights head to Ponte Vedra invitational next

Creekside swimmers return to competition Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Frank Holleman Invitational at Planet Swim in Ponte Vedra. The meet traditionally draws top swimmers from across St. Johns County and beyond.
