The proposed 85,000-square-foot Life Time fitness center at Durbin Park has advanced to construction-plan review.

St. Johns County's application record lists the master development plan as filed July 27 and complete Sept. 23. Life Time submitted commercial construction plans Oct. 1, as reported by the St. Johns Citizen.

The two-story facility would sit on nearly 11 acres near East Peyton Parkway and Flagler Health Way. The approved layout shows two outdoor pools surrounded by poolside seating, an outdoor bistro patio and a children's turf area.

The pool deck grew from original measurements. The approved plan calls for approximately 72,220 square feet of outdoor pool deck, up from roughly 65,000 square feet in the earlier proposal. The approved plan also includes 579 vehicle parking spaces, 12 of them accessible.

The filings do not provide a construction start date, an opening date or membership prices.

Gate and the YMCA

The Citizen first reported on the project in April when Gate, which owns the Durbin Park property, confirmed it was under contract with Life Time. Eden Sutherland, Gate's director of marketing, told the Citizen in April: "We are currently under contract with Life Time fitness for a location at Durbin."

Sutherland also said the YMCA would have a separate site at Durbin within the UF Health Medical Campus.

The Jax Daily Record reported in March that Gate, through Durbin Creek National LLC, owns the land. Jacksonville-based England-Thims & Miller Inc. is the civil engineer, according to the Daily Record.

Life Time, which operates 185 clubs in 32 states and Canada, is also building a club at Seven Pines in Jacksonville slated to open in 2027. Durbin Park would be the company's second location in Northeast Florida.

The county is reviewing the commercial construction plans Life Time submitted Oct. 1.
