St. Johns County's $13 million fire station and sheriff's operations center in Silverleaf is on track for final completion in early spring 2027, according to a county progress update published Oct. 28. Construction completion for the nearly 20,000-square-foot shared facility is targeted for late 2026, with final completion anticipated in early spring 2027, the county said.
Construction timeline
The project broke ground in March 2026.
Fire-rescue staffing and equipment
Fire Station 22 will house approximately 33 firefighters across three shifts, with 11 assigned per shift for around-the-clock emergency response. Equipment stationed there will include a fire engine, a tower truck, a tanker, a rescue unit and a battalion chief.
Sheriff’s Office operations
The facility will also provide workspace for St. Johns County Sheriff's Office detectives. The Criminal Investigations Division will relocate from its current space near the St. Johns County Detention Facility, giving investigators additional room and placing them alongside fire-rescue personnel at the shared site.
"Public safety is one of the most important responsibilities here in St. Johns County, and the new Silverleaf Fire Station and Sheriff's Office will give our first responders the facilities they need to better serve our residents," Lance Alred, capital improvement program manager for St. Johns County Public Works, said in the county update.
Service area and station design
The station will serve Silverleaf and surrounding communities along County Road 2209, County Road 210 and State Road 16, according to the county's Oct. 28 update. Its location will also offer access to the future First Coast Expressway, positioning first responders to reach additional areas of the county.
Living spaces inside the station will include a day room and kitchen, two bunk rooms, separate quarters for the battalion chief, captains and lieutenants, and a shared gym and training area for both fire-rescue and sheriff's office personnel.
Heather Hilley, project manager for St. Johns County Public Works, said in the update that county leadership has invested in first responder mental health. She said the station's design reflects that priority.
According to the county's project page, the station will provide a level of service comparable to what other areas of the county with similar populations and building densities already receive.
Part of a countywide initiative
The Silverleaf project is the second facility in a broader county initiative to construct four combined public safety facilities over five years, the county said.
