Ponte Vedra's football season comes down to one game Friday night, and Creekside is the opponent standing in the way.

The Sharks (3-6) enter the Week 11 finale clinging to the eighth and final playoff seed in FHSAA Region 1-5A, holding a 1.95-point cushion in the MaxPreps rankings, according to the Jacksonville Times-Union. A win over the district champion Knights could clinch a postseason berth and potentially push Ponte Vedra higher in the bracket.

Creekside (7-2) has already locked up a playoff spot as the District 1-6A champion. But the Knights have plenty to play for in a rivalry that dates to both schools' opening year. Ponte Vedra leads the all-time series 12-7, News4JAX sports editor Justin Barney reported.

The Knights arrive in strong form. Running back Davis Baldwin has piled up 455 rushing yards and six touchdowns this season. Quarterback Rozzi Sperry has thrown for 1,359 yards and nine touchdowns, connecting frequently with wide receiver Timmy Goodrich, who has 489 receiving yards and four scores. Creekside's two losses came by a combined seven points: 27-21 to Fletcher in Week 3 and 10-9 to rival Bartram Trail in Week 5.

Defense has been the Knights' calling card. Linebacker Sutton Hooker leads the team in tackles, and cornerback Trent Porter anchors the secondary, according to News4JAX. Head coach Sean McIntyre's group has worn opponents down all season.

Ponte Vedra will counter with an offense that has no trouble scoring. Quarterback Carter Sole, running back Alex Winkles and wide receivers Tucker Henderson, Cade Turner and Trent Player have combined for 24 receiving touchdowns. Defensive end Mike Aker leads the Sharks with nine sacks. But Ponte Vedra allowed 31 points to Fletcher and lost a high-scoring game to Nease in Week 10, and the Sharks cannot afford another shootout against a Creekside defense built to grind.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Ponte Vedra.

Bartram Trail looks to lock down a playoff spot

Across town, Bartram Trail (6-3) hosts Land O'Lakes (6-3) in a game the Bears need to win.

Bartram Trail sits at No. 7 in Region 1-5A, according to the Times-Union's playoff-bubble analysis. Land O'Lakes ranks No. 183 in Florida's MaxPreps standings, meaning a loss would do serious damage to the Bears' strength-of-schedule number heading into the FHSAA's planned bracket announcement Nov. 6.

The Bears have leaned on sophomore quarterback Xander Camus, who threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns in a Week 9 loss to Nease. Freshman running back Blake Soares rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 8 comeback win over Beachside, rallying Bartram Trail from a 19-0 deficit. Wide receiver Cam Ganther and tight end Leo Marucci have been targets in the passing game, while edge rushers Marcelo Estrada and Major Granados combined for four sacks against Beachside.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Bartram Trail.

What's at stake across Region 1-5A

The Bartram Trail and Ponte Vedra games do not exist in a vacuum. Fletcher (4-5), currently ninth in Region 1-5A, closes against winless Atlantic Coast on Friday. A big Creekside win over Ponte Vedra could help Fletcher's case by weakening the Sharks' ranking, but the Senators' four-game losing streak has left them with little margin.

The FHSAA plans to announce playoff brackets Nov. 6.
