The Church of Eleven22 plans to move its Ponte Vedra High School congregation to the Shoppes of Valley Ridge and is exploring a second site along U.S. 1 near County Road 210.
Jay Owen, the church's chief of ministry staff, confirmed the relocation to The St. Johns Citizen. He said the congregation meeting at the high school and the permanent campus next to Creekside High School are overcrowded. Plans for the second site have not been finalized.
Valley Ridge relocation
An Aug. 4 application proposes a 44,928-square-foot facility at the Shoppes of Valley Ridge near Nease High School, the Citizen reported. A site plan places the building on vacant land behind the shopping center's parking lot. Shoppes of Valley Ridge LLC owns the nearly 12-acre property.
The project requires a modification to the property's planned unit development, according to the Jacksonville Daily Record.
Second site under consideration
A Sept. 24 pre-application proposes a 32,148-square-foot church at 11600 U.S. 1 North on roughly seven acres owned by Blair Investments LLC, the Citizen reported. The preliminary drawing shows 408 parking spaces but does not list a seating capacity.
Owen told the Citizen that designs and construction schedules remain unsettled. He said the existing St. Johns campus near Creekside High School is “not going anywhere.”
That campus was completed in May 2025, according to contractor Scherer Construction. It has approximately 61,200 square feet and a 1,901-seat sanctuary.
County review still required
The approval process depends on the zoning requests submitted. The county's Planning and Zoning Agency makes recommendations to county commissioners on major planned unit development modifications and decides certain other applications.
The county's roughly 60-day estimate applies to special uses, temporary uses and zoning variances, rather than all development applications. The reporting reviewed did not identify hearing dates for these church proposals.
