Registration is open for the third annual Family Color Run 5K, a mostly off-road race through colored powder stations at the St. Johns County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 9 a.m.

The event, organized by the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department, grew in its second year in 2025. A post-event local report said more than 120 people participated and quoted Parks and Recreation Community Program Manager Tess Simpson as saying participation had doubled from the inaugural run.

“We were so excited to see the Color Run grow last year, and we're looking forward to making this year even bigger and more fun,” Simpson said.

Registration costs $25 per runner and includes a commemorative medal, professional timing services and access to the color stations along the route. Runners can find registration information at runsignup.com/Race/FL/Elkton/FamilyColorRun5k.

The course winds through the fairgrounds at 5840 SR 207 E. in Elkton. Organizers describe it as suitable for all ages and fitness levels, and they advise wearing clothes you don't mind getting covered in colored powder.

Community partnerships

The St. Johns County Parks Foundation is offering community partnership and vendor opportunities tied to the race. Businesses and organizations interested in participating can find details at sjcpf.org.

The Parks Foundation is the official philanthropic partner of St. Johns County Parks and Recreation. The department manages 106 parks, 126 athletic fields, 41 playgrounds and nine community centers across St. Johns County.

The inaugural Color Run in 2024 was originally scheduled for Sept. 28 but was postponed to Nov. 16 because of Hurricane Helene preparations, according to St. Johns County announcements. Despite the delay, organizers called it a success and built on that momentum for the 2025 edition.

The county announcement does not state a registration deadline or capacity limit.
