Bartram Trail jumped three spots to No. 5 in the Class 5A Region 1 playoff bracket, according to Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) projections published Sept. 29.

Creekside holds the No. 4 seed in Class 6A Region 1. If the bracket holds, Creekside would host Spruce Creek in the first round while Bartram Trail would travel to No. 4 Orlando Evans, per the St. Augustine Record's bracket breakdown.

The Bears sat at No. 8 in the region as recently as Sept. 23, according to a Florida Times-Union analysis of MaxPreps rankings. A 34-16 district win over Ponte Vedra on Sept. 25 helped propel their rise. The FHSAA uses MaxPreps rankings to determine seeding across all classification brackets, updating twice weekly.

Creekside holds district lead

Creekside (4-2) sits first in 6A District 1 at 2-0 following a 49-10 win over Sandalwood on Sept. 25. Quarterback Rozzi Sperry leads the district with 726 passing yards, while receiver Timmy Goodrich averages 88.0 receiving yards per game with four touchdowns. Linebacker Sutton Hooker anchors the defense with 8.0 tackles per game and two sacks.

"We feel like for us to win, we have to win in all three phases of the game — offense, defense and special teams," head coach Sean McIntyre told the Ponte Vedra Recorder when the Knights were 2-0.

Following an Oct. 2 bye week, three district games remain on Creekside's schedule: Atlantic Coast on Oct. 9, at Flagler Palm Coast on Oct. 16, and First Coast on Oct. 23, before wrapping up the regular season at Ponte Vedra on Oct. 30.

Bartram Trail rebounds with two straight wins

Bartram Trail (5-1) has won two straight games since a 30-7 loss at Fletcher on Sept. 11, including a 10-9 rivalry win at Creekside on Sept. 18.

Head coach Cory Johns' squad stands at 1-1 in 5A District 2. Three of their final four games are district matchups: at Beachside on Oct. 9, home against Nease on Oct. 16, and at top-seeded Mandarin on Oct. 23. A non-district home game against Land O' Lakes on Oct. 30 closes the regular season.
