Drivers who use St. Johns Parkway near Silverleaf will need to find another route starting Tuesday, Sept. 1.

The Florida Department of Transportation will close St. Johns Parkway, also known as County Road 2209, between Waterford Lakes Drive and Silverleaf Village Drive. The road will shut down from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day Tuesday, Sept. 1, through Thursday, Sept. 3, as crews place concrete barrier wall for the First Coast Expressway.

FDOT District 2 spokesperson Sherri Byrd announced the closures Monday, Aug. 31.

The detour runs along Silverlake Drive.

FDOT urged motorists to watch for detour signs, obey posted speed limits and use extra caution near the work zone.

What's behind the work

The closures are tied to the third and final segment of the First Coast Expressway, a roughly 2.7-mile stretch running from east of County Road 16A to just west of Interstate 95 in St. Johns County. FDOT estimates the segment will be finished by 2031, the Jacksonville Daily Record reported in June.

MasTec Civil LLC is the general contractor on the $205 million segment. Construction was scheduled to begin in early February, according to a separate Jacksonville Daily Record report from January.

The broader First Coast Expressway is a roughly 46-mile toll road connecting I-10 in Duval County to I-95 in St. Johns County through Clay County. The full project carries a price tag of about $1.8 billion.

St. Johns County Director of Economic Development Christine Valliere told the Jacksonville Daily Record in June that the CR 2209 corridor "is emerging as an ideal hub for light industrial, logistics, and flex-industrial development." The corridor sits between the expressway route and I-95.
