On the issues
Mosquito control priorities
Anagnos said the most critical issues facing the district are pesticide resistance, erratic storm-driven flooding and fiscal accountability. He said the district must shift away from broad chemical spraying toward what he called advanced Integrated Mosquito Management. That approach, he said, would expand targeted biological controls, use drone technology for precise larvicide application in hard-to-reach coastal wetlands and increase public education on eliminating standing water at home.
Fiscal accountability
Anagnos said the district should maximize every taxpayer dollar by investing heavily in proactive prevention, which he said reduces the need for expensive emergency adulticide spraying. He also said he proposes exploring regional purchasing partnerships to optimize the budget.
All four candidates in the Seat 4 race are nonpartisan. The Anastasia Mosquito Control District serves all of St. Johns County, and every registered voter in the county will see this race on the ballot.
