Creekside's Eli Scharf led the pack along the St. Johns River in the boys elite race Saturday as seven area runners from Creekside and Bartram Trail took on some of Florida's best at the 29th Katie Caples Invitational at Bishop Kenny in Jacksonville.

Scharf, who entered the meet with an area-best 16:21.00 from the Cecil Field Summer Classic according to Jacksonville-area stats leaders, was photographed out front in the elite field. Teammate Bryce Cunningham also raced in the boys elite event. Buchholz's Andrew Sides ultimately won the boys elite race, according to the Florida Times-Union's photo coverage of the meet.

Creekside girls build on state title

On the girls side, three Creekside Knights competed in the elite race: Ivey Edgell, Emma Godfrey and sophomore Eva Delaney. Delaney and Godfrey arrived at Katie Caples riding strong early-season form. At the Florida Horse Park Invitational on Sept. 5, Delaney ran an area-best 18:44.8 to place sixth, and Godfrey finished eighth in 19:03.3, helping the Knights to a second-place team finish behind Bishop Moore. Delaney earned a Florida Times-Union Athlete of the Week nomination for that performance.

The Creekside girls are defending Florida High School Athletic Association, or FHSAA, state champions after winning the title in 2025, according to the Creekside High School website.

Bishop Moore's Annabella Tomasic won the girls elite event Saturday. Host Bishop Kenny placed second and third through Camila Giles and Jillian Jakab.

Bartram Trail duo races in varsity field

Bartram Trail's Sam Carpio and Elias Lekas competed in the boys varsity race. Carpio was photographed leading the varsity pack early, running alongside Montverde Academy's Salvatore Scelfo and Bishop Snyder's Andrew Fredland. Scelfo went on to win the boys varsity event. Lekas was captured racing along the St. Johns River on the course that winds past the Hart Bridge.

Results pending as season continues

Bishop Kenny, the host school, had 76 athletes compete across all classifications, with 19 recording top-20 finishes, Bishop Kenny Athletics said on X Saturday. The meet drew 445 athletes for the morning session alone, and the revamped schedule this year split middle school and high school races into the morning, with junior varsity, main varsity and elite races in the late afternoon.

Both Creekside and Bartram Trail continue their regular-season schedules as FHSAA district competition approaches later this fall.
