Bartram Trail's Avery Hartley wins Gainesville cross-country meet, earns athlete nomination
Bartram Trail sophomore Avery Hartley won the girls' individual title at the Half-Mile Timing Invitational in Gainesville on Oct. 10, finishing the 5-kilometer race in 19 minutes, 1.6 seconds.
The performance also earned Hartley a nomination for the Florida Times-Union Girls Athlete of the Week award.
Hartley finished 14 seconds ahead of Creekside sophomore Eva Delaney, according to Run Florida Run's Oct. 12 recap.
Run Florida Run ranked Hartley No. 10 among Florida girls cross-country runners and No. 6 in FHSAA Class 4A.
Hartley adds another strong finish
Hartley's Gainesville victory followed an earlier standout performance at the Cecil Field Summer Classic in August, where she reportedly ran 18:13. That time was reported as the fastest girls' 5K mark in Northeast Florida at that point in the season.
Her August performance also earned her a Times-Union Girls Athlete of the Week nomination for the week of Aug. 17-22.
Hartley was among seven nominees for the Oct. 5-10 award. The other nominees listed were Kailey Ausley of St. Augustine (volleyball), Riley Bridda of Fletcher (volleyball), Jenna Hahnemann of Ponte Vedra (volleyball), Whitney Morgan of Episcopal (cross-country and swimming), Hazel Peters of Nease (golf) and Izzy Riva of Wolfson (swimming).
Voting opened Oct. 13 and was scheduled to close at 10 a.m. Oct. 16. The newspaper limited voting to once per device per hour.
Bartram Trail claims two individual titles
Hartley was not the only Bartram Trail runner to win at the Gainesville meet.
Senior Bryce Motycka won the boys' race in 17:07.1, finishing ahead of Branford junior Logan Haley. The two victories gave Bartram Trail both individual titles at the invitational.
Creekside won the girls' team championship with 42 points, ahead of Oak Hall. Buchholz claimed the boys' team title with 52 points.
Bartram Trail's next listed meet is the Middleburg Bronco Classic on Saturday, Oct. 24, according to MaxPreps.
